The storyline and pictures make for enjoyable reading just by themselves. Looking forward to the next instalment.

Not wanting to be funny or anything but would you be allowed to push a coach that far? ISTR asking about this kind of thing on UKTS and a current engineman said pushing is done at extremely low speeds under hand signals. Perhaps it would be better, as well as adding another movement, to run the loco round its support coach?

I've gone from 'fit for firing' to 'full time fireman'. Does this mean I can fire those who are 'fit for firing'?

This is probably a dumb question but why does it always have a support coach attached. Can it not run light loco?

I don't know myself for sure Jim but I think the coaches houses all the support crew. I'd imagine there was a mechanic and his mate and a replacement footplate crew on board. I also wouldn't be surprised if the HSE have something to do with it, providing 'comfort' for the crew.

The Story of Part 4

Still the odd spit of rain around but atleast the cloud has lifted and the odd ray of sunshine is showing through. It's 14:28, all the stewards are shepherding the last of the guests back into the coaches for the main event of the day. Enough time for your Fireman to get a head start in the firebox. Just a couple of services running slightly halt your timed departure. Away we go. We have a stop at Appleby for then it's clear to Settle where we stop for water again and another crew takes over for the run through Blackburn to Farington Junction where 'Les Ross' will take over again................

The Story of Part 5

Through Preston Station at 18:20, this could be fun. You have been routed down the Goods Line from Farington Junction and are being held just south of the station. After a few moments you are signalled into the goods loop beside Platform 1 where you are stopped. A short wait ensues as regular early evening services arrive and depart Preston. Eventually you get the right of passage over the Flyde Lines to join the WCML again. You've been squeezed into the timetable between two express services so there is no time to lose. With the shadows starting to lengthen as the evening sun lowers in the sky, a couple of warning signals slows your progress slightly as you approach Lancaster although these disappear as the Leeds - Morecambe service disappears to Bare Lane. As you reach Carnforth for the second time today, you are routed through the goods loop. After receiving instruction, you are clear to work your way through Carnforth Station and enter the former Steam town working where the crew will start to get the loco ready for a well earned rest.
