Making a Simple Station Name Board - Revised Addition

Hi All

REVISED AND SIMPLIFIED ADDITION
I searched the Internet for a tutorial on how to make station name boards, but without much success. Then I tried to re-skin an existing sign in TS 2015, but the scale was all wrong. So I decided to have a go at making my own and was introduced to Blender. What a magnificent piece of software, and free! It is worth every penny of a donation.

The attachment contains instructions on how I went about making my own signs. This is an entirely revised and simplified addition. I suggest before you begin that you have a look at the many tutorials that are available; some are on this website.

To change the name on the Nameboard just delete the Text Object in the Outliner Panel and add new text. It is easy to change the shape of the board, and move the posts, but you will have to separate the posts by selecting each face in Edit Mode and pressing P > Selection.

Good luck

Ed

Always good when people share their knowledge and advice - thanks very much for taking the time to do this. I'm a novice at Blender; Jim's YouTube tutorials here were very helpful, but you can never have enough material to learn from. As teachers are wont to say, repeat, repeat, and repeat again!

Thanks Yerkes

I hope it helps, and perhaps I will get feedback from experienced Blender users on my mistakes, or shortcuts I could have used. What a great site this is.

You are welcome - I hope it helps. I am now having a go at making the LBSCR 'Terrier'. Difficult, but a lot quicker than building the live steam version!

I have just started the transition to Blender from 3DCrafter so having a Tutorial like that relates directly to TS2016 is a great advantage. I have gone through a few basic tutorials on the web but now want to build something relevant so this example will be ideal.

Thanks Ed, for your time and effort producing this
