Useful new tool

Looking for a way to model a quarry for TS2015 the biggest problem is the 8*8 terrain grid, so I was looking for a way to create a model of the quarry to place as an asset to achieve steeper and more detailed terrain. I came across a new tool which I was experimenting with before my graphics card died and thought it may be of interest to others.

The tool is Populate Terrain and available FOC from http://populate3d.com/.

Perhaps best explained by showing how I used it.Firstly, I went to Sketchmap, the open resource mapping site and having zoomed in to the relevant area selected the "Contours" only option, then grabbed the image to create a template to work from.

Next, using the template as a guide, I created a spline from the contours.

Then I chose a suitable mesh size and applied the Populate tool and it generated the object.

The advantage of this tool over the surface modifier is the simple square mesh it generates which should also simplify texturing and modding the object. I have used it to create a terrain object, but it would work for any type of object you had contours for.

Hope others find it of use.
