Hi everyone does anybody know how to bring a section of google maps onto the grid of 3ds max, as I've been finding it hard to line models up in gameplay with the overlay I would like to work on a model with the map underneath so I can line up the shape of a model correctly instead of going back and forth every 5 minutes to make sure I've lined everything up correctly.
If anybody knows how to do this can they let me know, cheers.

Not quite sure what you're trying to do but have you considered the ability to export items from Train Sim then load them in 3ds max?

Haven't done this for a long time but I believe the procedure is -

To export track -- select the track geometry you need , Ctrl + C to copy and then Ctrl + Shift + E to export
To export a tile -- turned off the grids and then pressed 'T' to export

You'll find a new folder in the RW directory called 'Export' with the files inside.

I'm sure someone will correct me if I've miss remembered.

One of the manual in RW Dev folder says the same, OP can refer it

Read the post and was curious if any program that reads a 3ds format can access the same info?
Is the output from Train Sim in 3ds format or is there another requirement from 3ds max that creates the conversion?
Do you know the conversion format from Train Sim to 3ds?
Might be able to find an addon
Anyone tried or have any experience as it sounds helpful to be able to bring terrain and info from train sim into your modelling environment
I will have a play but more info is always useful
Sorry for crashing the thread

Cheers Ausc

I have exported both track and terrain in the past and, having looked in my Export folder, I am reminded that the Train sim details are exported in .obj format, which I believe can be imported by many 3d programs.

Hey guys thanks for your responses much appreciated I have done exporting track and other lofts into 3ds max before yes I done this for helping me build a few stations might be worth a try with lining up bridges like skewed ones too. I will take a look at an import of google maps see what they come up with.
Cheers, Ian.
