Audio Children Attached to Wagons

Audio Children Attached to Wagons

Postby SteveP_trains » Fri Aug 09, 2024 1:28 pm

Hi
Hope there are still a few people monitoring the website occasionally and may be able to help!
I am trying to trigger an audio blueprint added as a Child element on a custom built ballast wagon. The idea is to have a load/unload sound when the wagon is at a Bulk Loading asset.
I've successfully done this for a passenger coach so as to produce door clunks when opening/closing and a guards whistle to sound after passenger loading (via the T key) and so in principle, this should work for the ballast wagon when it fills or unloads as it uses the same wagon blueprint. However, I get no sounds when the bulk loader asset is triggered. Bulk loading/unloading animation on the wagon is fine as the ballast load fills nicely.

I'm guessing it must be linked to the Bulk Loading asset in some way?? My custom loco coal & water sounds are also fine. It's just the wagon / bulk loading seems not to follow the same rules?

Anyone had success with what I'm trying to do or any ideas??

Thanks
Steve

I never did anything like that and I do not have a complete set of files at hand but this is how I would start research on the subject.

I postulate that the sound is linked to the vehicle and not the stationary part.

And I assume it follows the pattern of making the sound a child object.

So I would find a coach that has the sounds you like and look at the file referenced in AnimSet - iAnimObjectRenderBlueprint-cAnimation - AnimationName. That will be the blueprint of the animation, i.e., an .xml file that links to the animation .ia and with some luck, this will have a child object referencing the sound. Each coach has two entries for doors_l and doors_r.

In case you find that, you could add such a child to the blueprint that is associated with the cargo loading.

However, I am not so sure which one that would be. I would assume it is reference in CargoBlueprintID, but my old samples I only find container wagon FSA with a non-empty entry there.

Sorry, no chance for testing anything. I can't claim I uninstalled the game, I simply did not reinstall it after a Windows crash years ago.

Thanks for your reply, Andy
I think I’ve been down the route that you’ve outlined but with no success.
I have managed to add my own sounds to a custom coach of mine, so that I get door clunks on open & close, and a guards whistle so the process should be the same. But on pressing the T key (load/unload) nothing happens on the freight wagon.
I’ve also investigated other wagons and can’t find anyone who’s done this so beginning to suspect this may be a limitation of TSim.
Anyway, I’ll still keep looking.
Best Regards
Steve

Glad you found my somewhat late answer.

I never played with this loading/unloading feature. I cannot remember anyone commenting that the sound would be missing and sure enough you should hear something if a waggon load of coal or ballast is dumped. I vaguely remember a cloud of dust forming. Maybe it is this animation that has a sound child?

But it could well be that when they rushed the original KRS out in its initial quite unfinished state, for some small reason the sound for freight unloading dropped off the list of must-haves while the door sounds did not. It will remain in the mist of history. And if this assumption is true, then the fact that we only think about it now strongly supports those who dumped that feature. :D
