AP Class 156

AP Class 156

Postby BigVern » Wed Jul 31, 2019 8:20 am

I see looking on UKTS, AP are doing a new version of the Class 156. In all the hubris over there, however, no-one has actually mentioned the elephant in the room - Sprinter physics.

Not sure if anyone from AP frequents our little board here but if they do or someone has contact with them, could I issue a plea that they do their level best to overcome the physics limitations which have blighted all the Voith transmission fitted Sprinter type units in TS to date - namely that intermediate Notch positions (1 - 6) are not a cruise control/speed lock. The most ridiculous manifestation of this is when coasting downhill, you open the throttle to Notch 4 or Notch 5 to apply gentle acceleration and the darn thing slows down!

Thanks!

Hello,

It won't use the built-in diesel hydraulic/mechanical sim blueprint, it'll use the diesel electric sim blueprint and a bit of scripting, just like the AP 150/2 and the various diesel hydraulic EPs from AP.

As a result it won't magically lock to a speed dependent on throttle position.

Cheers,

That is good news, appreciate the confirmation. Definitely one for the wishlist.

Now if only they would do a Swindon built Class 120 Cross Country unit - complete with rasping exhaust! (Or a nice Hastings 201...).
