Enigmatic new route - Story of Forest Rail

Postby cjbarnes5294 » Tue Jul 01, 2014 1:04 pm

This new DTG partner-program route, announced today, looks absolutely beautiful. The style of buildings and bright colours suggest that it's a new Japanese route, but does anyone know where it's based exactly? I tried looking it up on the net but I couldn't see anything named the Story of Forest - grammatically speaking Story of Forest doesn't make much sense to me, unless it's the Story of the Forest Rail, but who knows at this stage. :D It's all very exciting, and intriguing. The DMUs also look fantastic. I'm looking forward to this.

Reminds me awfully of spirited away, the unit is Japanese by the looks of it, how interesting :)

Anything Japanese is welcome in my book, though as stated all very mysterious and intriguing at present. 8-)

I managed to miss this Engine Driver article about the project, which when read will make things much less enigmatic, and even more exciting in my opinion:

There's some lovely concept art as well, such as this:

I've discussed the idea of a storyline and cutscenes with Ed from Meshtools before, so I'm really looking forward to see what Union Workshop have created with their story.

I have a feeling this means it may be a fictional, or semi fictional route, though.

I don't mind fiction, personally. As I've never been to Japan, I wouldn't know if it's fictional or not without being told (unless psychedelic monsters or Kaiju start appearing everywhere ;) ). Previous fictional routes, both freeware and payware, that are grounded in realism or based on real places have sometimes proved to be more interesting than a real route, certainly in terms of the surrounding landscape. :)
