Detailed Drawing sources

Detailed Drawing sources

Postby briyeo » Sat Apr 19, 2014 11:00 am

If you have any links to sources for reasonably detailed drawings of anything railway route or rolling stock related could you post them here.

Anything from Locomotives to station/roadside clutter.

Here is a site with everything about public space lighting from cast iron gas lamps to modern concrete and steel installations..

http://www.simoncornwell.com/lighting/

Here is a sample of the kind of things you can find on the site.

This will be a useful resource for some: http://www.barrowmoremrg.co.uk/Prototype.html

I cannot vouch for the accuracy, but there is a hell of a lot to take a look at.

I get all mine from here http://www.livesteamlocomotives.com/index.html

They're expensive (relatively) but worth it.

The single most invaluable source of locomotive plans - the NRM
http://www.nrm.org.uk/ResearchAndArchiv ... Works.aspx
The microfilms of locomotive general arrangements are excellent and my preferred type of plan, take about 4-5 weeks to arrive but it's worth it if you bulk order, not too expensive either!

Quite a broad source this but a online copies of "The Engineer" journal, highly useful and quite often contains either railway data or locomotive plans in it, but it does take some time to uncover them! Also contains engineering drawings on practically everything from feed pumps to coal power stations and bridges. Sadly you do now need to sign in to use, but it is currently still free.

The Utrecht Archives house the former historical collection of the Nederlandsche Spoorwegen, and its' predecessors. Most drawings are high quality black and white scans, and can be downloaded free of charge. More modern drawings however, are not freely available due to copyright.

There's nothing much special in the archives, Dutch engines have never been all that amazing. You'll find designs by Neilson & Reid, Beyer-Peacock, and many more of the prime exporters. However, it's always worth having a look around if you're a nerd like me. Google translate the page for an optimal funnynes to readability ratio.
