Lancashire County Council - Mario

This site not only has a nice zooming tool, but also you can overlay historical OS maps down to 1:2500 - which is plenty to see where individual tracks and sidings went, and often marks individual signalposts. Most of the county is also covered by 1960s aerial photographs - an excellent resource.

The Nottingham one I've just linked to almost covers your area. But not quite.
