What type of lubricator is this?

What type of lubricator is this?

As seen on MR 673

And more important, where do all the pipes go? Lubricator is on the left wall.

Hydrostatic. Of which design, I'm not sure, but that's how it works.

One of the pipes will go to its reservoir....

Other than that, can't help, sorry.

No problems there. I had guessed it's hydrostatic, but apart from that... Lubricators are magic boxes to me. Steampunky magic greasy boxes.

Its a Wakefield no.2 double feed hydrostatic lubricator. The pipe from the top of the cab to the lubricator is the steam supply which is condensed and used to displace the oil, the other two pipes will go to the valves/cylinders supplying the displaced oil. I can provide a diagram if you need to.

If that's not too much trouble for you, I'd like to have a look. I've found a better image of a lubricator that seems like a variation of the wakefield No. 2, on which I've modelled my own (I know it's a different loco, but same company and builder, so I'd guess they would be the same). A diagram would really help figure out where the different lines and knobs go.

That pic appears to have some form of protector around the sight feed tubes

Not the best but should provide some info on their function.

Thanks. The glass protectors seem like an in-house modification to me.

Just a little extra, single feed version put you can get the general idea from it.

And a slightly different one by wakefield as shown in first diagram I think ( single sight feed again ).

Thanks a lot there. Those pictures really help with getting the look and feel right. Meanwhile, going through some old books I've found this, thought I'd throw it out there if anyone needs a bit of reference.

Image

As you'll probably see, the author calls it a Vacuum lubricator, but as far as I can see, it works as a displacement lubricator. Steam goes in at g, then condenses to water in p, pushing the oil contained in the reservoir up into the J-shaped tubes from where it goes into the sight glasses, which have regulating knobs attached. It's quite similar to the one you've shown, except some small differences.
