Released - Suiltjelma 2014 for Trainz (TS12)

Postby BigVern » Mon May 05, 2014 8:34 am

Just thought I would post an announcement for anyone interested in Trainz and/or narrow gauge that the above route is now available from the Trainsim.com file library. I couldn't get it on the N3V DLS due to some unfathomable technical issue.

Some screenshots here: http://www.trainsim.com/vbts/showthread ... jelma-2014

The route is based on a now closed narrow gauge in Northern Norway. This is a complete fresh build and not a re-work of my previous standard gauge version created in TRS2006. There's some excellent 2ft gauge locos and rolling stock now available in Trainz with surprisingly good steam physics and at 35km long this route provides a scenic stamping ground on which to run them.

The route was created in the latest version of TS12 61388 (aka SP1 HF4) and you will need DLS access to get the dependencies. One or two items from the Murchison 2 and S&C payware are also referenced in the route, but not essential to running it

Looks very nice Vern. I am more than happy to set up a Trainz area if you wish. Just say the word!

Thanks for the kind comments.

A separate Trainz area sounds like a good idea, although my next route will probably be in TS2014 I do spend a fair bit of time these days on the "dark side". So would be nice to have a mature and reasonably sensible area to discuss projects and progress.

I often feel tempted to have another go at Trainz. The Surveyor mode has always been very fun in my opinion, it's just a pity that driving and track laying has never been a strong point of the sim. I wonder if it's still on offer for a fiver at JT...

Thanks for upload, Vern. :)

This obviously not the board to start pro/con debate around the various sims, but it is the ease of use of Surveyor (supported by the incredibly useful Transdem terrain/mapping import utility) that has driven my recent productivity in Trainz. Add to that the range of items on the DLS, albeit not all (particularly non 3D or Speed Trees) sit comfortably in the latest versions. Where it does fall down (IMHO and without sparking any heated discussion) is the Ops side, as the reliance is still very much on free play rather than structured timetables etc. There are supposedly ways of setting up scenarios but nothing as intuitive as the editors in MSTS or TS2014.

For £2.99 for all of this it's probably worth a punt!

EDIT:
Gah! Sorry it seems that the bundle is finished! :x
Worth keeping an eye out for it in future, they often come back.

We now have a Trainz forum. I have only made a Trainz Mess Room sub forum Vern. Wasn't sure what else you wanted.

In Train Simulator we have:
  • 3D Object Creation
    • 3D Objects General
    • Blender
    • 3DS Max
    • Sketchup
    • 3DCrafter
  • Rolling Stock Creation
    • Rolling stock General
    • Re-skinning
  • Route Creation
  • Scenario Creation
  • Tutorials, Guides, FAQ
  • Train Simulator Mess Room

Do you want some / any / all of that?

I wondered where my post had gone...! A sub forum should do fine Jim, can always be expanded later if there was a sudden influx from other sites.

Edit: Actually thought I wasn't going mad, can't see the sub-forum in the main list unless I'm not looking in the right place.
