Hmmsim(driving simulator) ios/android

Postby JasonM » Sun Aug 31, 2014 3:03 pm

The other day I came across Hmmsim in the apple app store, it is a free driving simulator and I have tried it on an ipad mini retina, the graphics are excellent and it runs very smoothly.
It only comes with a fairly short route(another line coming soon) but gives you enough chance to see what it can do, there are no other moving trains and I think the signalling is fixed so every run will be the same, there is not a timetable(though there will be in a later version) so it's a case of arriving at a station, opening doors, close doors and depart when you want, there is no external view yet(coming soon).
You can add bve routes into it, these have to be converted first with a utility, I have tried a few but did not have very good results, maybe I was not converting properly, may have another go soon.

If you want to give it a go look here-

A bit of a bump, but I can report some success getting BVE routes across into Hmmsim (latest Android version).

So far I have managed to get Birmingham Cross City and Joetsu Border successfully imported. Tanigumi loads but as soon as you close the doors, the run completes, regardless of type of train.

The trick is getting the syntax right to export the train across with the route - i.e. the trains folder must be named TRAIN and the name of the train, e.g. CLASS_309_EMU must be shown in the csv file as such. You can't mix and match routes and trains per Open BVE so you need to create a separate zip file for every csv run you want to take across which is going to use a fair bit of storage space on the gadget. Hmmsim also doesn't work with OpenBVE routes or trains. And, of course, many BVE download sites are long gone and not even properly represented on the Wayback Machine. I looked in vain for Anthony Bowden's Watford to MKC route but seems to have vanished. Hopefully I have it on a backup CD somewhere.

You don't get a cab mask and there are visual artefacts, e.g. blacked in bridge portals but overall it is a useful thing to have on the Android as you can have a drive without having to load up the laptop or PC. Off now to see what other routes I have lurking from the past!

Update:
Following routes run okay:-
Minomachi Tram with 600, 800 and 880 series tramcars.
Epping to Ongar, with Class 37/4 for BVE 4.
FGV route from Genoa towards Casella.

I couldn't get Watford to MKC to run as the route file is in the old *.rw format, which the Hmmsim converter doesn't recognize. Am racking my brain as to whether there was a converter at some stage for old BVE routes, can anyone recall? I tried renaming the file extension from .rw to .csv but that didn't work, sadly.
