Union of South Africa and other stock movements

Postby Nobkins » Fri Apr 25, 2014 9:24 pm

When driving yesterday (Thu 24th April 2014) I was held at a red by the Union of South Africa as it crossed over my path at Shipley (I was going to Bradford from Skipton). Anyone know where it was going? Running Light Loco + support coach. I didn't mind getting held for this impressive loco :D I was being assessed at the time as well!

Also I saw quite a few West Coast Railways movements today around Leeds. 2 rakes of coaches being pulled by 47's. One looking quite grubby. The other looking very clean and sparkly! The sparkly one had to wait for me this time ;)

I occasionally take the 4 year old twins out to see a steam loco pass through. Given all the stock movements is their anything good happening this weekend in the Leeds area that might interest the kids? Loud Diesels and steam are the preferred types! I have a few sites I check to find out sometimes but I thought I would be sociable and ask you lot!

Cheers

Last time I saw 60009 and support coach was when they were stabled outside the NRM, whilst passing by on the Deltic Aberdonian 2 weeks ago tomorrow. Were they coming from Leeds way when they passed you, Jim, or away from Keighley way, as I wonder if they've been sat there in York for all that time?

Unfortunately, without checking UKsteam.info, I've no idea where no 9 was heading. :)

Ahh, thanks, so it's probably been sat there in York all that time. I might have gone and had a look if I'd have known (and had the time off!).

http://www.uksteam.info is invaluable for finding out about steam movements. Both engine+support moves, like you saw, and full railtours. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be anything steam tomorrow, around Leeds. I don't know anything about diesel railtours.

I hope you get to see something with your twins. Have a nice weekend

Regards
Matt
