Windows 7 versus 8.1

Postby eyore » Sun Jan 18, 2015 4:41 pm

As support for Windows 7 is ending and it is rumoured that users of 8.1 will get a free upgrade to Windows 10, is it worth considering upgrading good old version 7 to 8.1, or should I stick to what works?

I always stick with what works, and I do recommend it. :D

As for the rumour, it Windows 10 is worthy more than 8.1, MS will not give it away for free. They think that 8.1. is great and people ought to adapt. And are there any reliable rumours telling us what Windows 10 will be like? What if it is 8.0, take 2?

It now seems that windows 10 will be free to both windows 7 and 8 users, so no need to upgrade from 7 just to get the free windows 10 version.

It's only partially true that support for Win7 is ending. Microsoft will no longer be creating new content for it but they are planning to keep producing security updates and patches until 2020. It will be interesting to see how different Win10 is. Win8/8.1 has been a disaster for Microsoft with a dismal uptake so it desperately needs to make Win10 a success.
