Working Canals?

It is possible to set up a basic working canal system in Trainz albeit the water craft have to run on invisible track. Was wondering if there was any method of doing similar in TS20xx (or MSTS)? The biggest challenge would be a working lock which Trainz gets round by configuring as a turntable but with a vertical motion rather than spinning the table.

Since taking a walk along Caen Hill at Devizes the other week I have become very interested in the canal scene. There are 100's of miles of fascinating stretches of cut crying out to be modelled in an interactive way - Kennet & Avon, the Caldon, Crinan and the amazing tunnel network underneath Dudley in the West Midlands.

Both should be possible, though I know of no one who tried.

Invisible track is available, though you don't even need it if the boat hovers several metres above track. I cannot remember boats that have an engine blueprint but that means nothing.

There are traversers in RW but again, I cannot remember what people said who created their own. Must be 10 years ago now. :o
AI cannot cross turntables, so you can bet that it cannot cross traversers.

I remember seeing moving ships on one route maybe JT Harwich extension but not 100%. For a canal boat rising in a lock is it possible to have a very abrupt elevation change in track and tell that ai to move very slow on it. Not sure how that works with the water level unless your boat has its own water attached around it locally. Not too big but enough for the lock. AT other times it could be below the surface of the main water plain.

It might just be easier to build them as a railway, then and save the pennies up for a week on a real canal boat... :)

For instant gongoozling there is a Marie Celeste narrow boat that runs along the river at Carlisle in WCML North.

I might take a look at how they did that.

An invisible road and a traffic can also work.
