Steam Sounds Supreme Projects

Postby SteamSoundsSupreme » Fri Apr 11, 2014 11:58 am

Making steady progress is our Rebuilt Royal Scot, built by Tom of TAA Developments. The example pictured - LMS Black 6115 Scots Guardsman - is currently in the CJB workshop, having all the cool stuff put in!!

A VERY significant moment filmed by Chris - the SSS/TAA Royal Scot moves for the first time!! :D

Both Tom and Chris have done fantastic work getting us to this stage. The sounds are being gathered together. So, the loco should be brought to life, in the fullest sense, very soon now! Can't wait!!

I'm guessing that the model will be only 6115? If so, will it be possible for repainters to add their own nameplates to reproduce the rest of the class? Additionally, will it have the facility to have no nameplate and only the supports over the wheel-arch, to allow for the latest running of the class?

6100 (or should I say 6152?) will be available in LMS Crimson and fictional Galatea-esque BR Maroon, and 6115 in the LMS black you see here and BR green. Hopefully, the remaining locos will all be available in at least one BR variant with dynamic numbers and names - at least that is the plan. The issue of so many different nameplate types will need sorting, although I have a fairly good idea of how we will do that. This would be more suited for the BR era routes, whereas the preserved locos would obviously be better on any post-1968 era route.

Thanks, Chris. I saw Scots working up the Midland main line looking cared-for and, later, when they were scruffy and neglected. Working with Chris, Brian and Mark on the Friargate Line, name-plateless Scots will fit right in with Nottingham Victoria as they were based at Annesley after they were displaced from the WCML. Now that you've calmed my fears of a lack of flexibility, I'll go back to looking forward to its release.

Keith, would these nameless scots have been pretty worn and weathered by then, out of interest? I'm sure a nameless one could also be produced if required for the Friargate Line, which would be pretty easy to do since it just needs autonumbers, but I'll ask Matt and Tom about that. ;)

They leaked from every gland and were not given a lot of love. Here's one:

On the Annesley Fireman site, the owner says all the ones they received in lieu of Britannias were clapped out and weren't as good as a Black 5. This one's a rebuilt Jubilee but gives an idea, too.:

If you can be this flexible about names and numbers, Chris, how difficult would it be to add the few Patriot and Jubilee rebuilds to the list? I know they're not technically identical but there's practically no difference externally.

The rebuilt scots and patriots are quite different, on major thing is that Rebuilt patriots have Stanier Cabs, while Rebuilt Scots retained their fowler cabs and a fair few other differences :D

I could never tell them apart at the lineside! :-) You're right, of course, and you've got me to go and check. I had never realised that the Jubilee and Patriot rebuilds had cabs with two windows each side while the Scots had one window and a cut-out.
