Custom game shaders - SSAO

Postby Jordi » Sat Apr 25, 2015 9:39 pm

Hi all, in a bit of a rush so can't post a ton of details about how it all works, but I've had a small amount of time progress with my custom shaders. Lately my main focus has been SSGI/SSAO. Here's a shot of with/without:

And if you'd like to compare between the two more closely, open both the following images in separate tabs and flip between tabs:

Framerates take 2-3% hit, so nothing major. All rendered real time, I've implemented 4 different 'common' methods so far that can be toggled. SSAO/Raymarch/HBAO/SSGI. I am looking to post a 'release' version in the coming weeks.

Fantastic!
I definitely like the more subtle colours.

Wow, that looks superb! So, if I've understood them correctly, do your shaders effectively shadow bake all of the terrain and objects in real time to give that really natural appearance? I really like how it makes objects like the trees stand out from the terrain they're sat on by the subtle darkening.

Thanks all! That is correct Chris, I've managed to exclude locos and stock from receiving shading due to the fact most are already texture baked.

I am also working on colour correction, lens distortion at different FoVs and a HDR/Bloom setup that looks nice.

Quick update before I pop out...

would recommend right click > open image in new tab on both of the above, then flipping between them to compare.
