I've not been idle..

I'm finally getting round to finishing off a model that has been sitting on my hard drive for several years. It is a late 60's 45t GLW TTB Class A tank built for Shell & BP by Pickering of Whishaw. This is a Clean-ish Shell version with it's original Double Link Suspension and through vacuum pipe. No idea of when and how it will be released yet, but I intend to include several variations including the later Bruninghaus suspension, removal of the vac pipe and those that ended up as part of the BP fleet.

Progress has been made on some of the variations intended.

Three more variations have been completed, this time covering the BP examples with Single Link Bruninghaus suspension and no vacuum through pipe.

Clean versions with twin pipe air brakes and still retaining traces of the branding when Shell and BP shared their fleets.

Clean examples with a single air pipe, the appearance of TOPS panels and the Pre 1989 BP Logo

The restrictions that were placed on the painting of Class A tanks were lifted at the end of the 1980's and BP painted some of their fleet in their house colours. Petroleum Sector logos and the 1989 style BP shield are present on these.

Next up is to do dirty versions for these.

I've taken a break from working on the oil tanks and have made a start on something new. Since we now have somewhere to run them, with the release of Joe Whittaker's North East Rails V2, I've decided to tackle the 56t Iron Ore hoppers that ran between Tyne Dock and Consett.

I never stopped making wagons, it's just that I've not been able to say what I've been up to. As for the 56t hopper, pictures and info on the workings can be found at http://www.derbysulzers.com/24102.html

Not a million miles from these. (Hint! Hint!) :-)

I have sometimes wondered whether these were related designs or simply parallel evolution with function dictating the design?

I wouldn't be surprised if the LMS wagons were a source of inspiration, even given the 20-odd years difference in build dates. Also interesting to note that only 30 of each design were built. I can't see myself modelling the LMS Coal wagons though, as I don't have drawings for those.

Oh, well! Never mind! We wouldn't have anywhere really suitable to run them on, anyway. They only ran along the Midland main line from North Derbyshire to London.

Steadily making progress, with the bogies coming along nicely.
