hurrah, hurrah!

Excellent news. Content creators have been bottlenecked by texture size constraints for way too long. Good job DTG.

I'm pleasantly surprised to see this announcement. I didn't think DTG would get around to doing this.

Possibly the realisation that TSW is not quite what it needs to be and people are staying with TS. I had high hopes for TSW but have already refunded 2 routes, not something I've done with TS. With a 64bit upgrade the life of TS will go on quite a bit longer yet. Happy for it too :D

My crystal ball says it is a mix of all of this:
  • TSW was planned to take a slow start but the start seems to be a bit on the very slow side.
  • TS20xx was planned to have a long life besides TSW, just look at the people still playing MSTS ten years after the release of KRS.
  • Converting the asset management part of the game to 64 bit is not the silver bullet but just getting rid of the memory limitation takes away a lot of trouble users and support are facing day in day out.

Well I don't know, we take 2 weeks off and this happens :D

I've had a few chats about this with DTG over the past 4-5 months and I'm very pleased that they finally got a stable version tested that they can release.. the future suddenly seems somewhat brighter for TS 8-)
