Cool new BPE Audio feature

Postby cjbarnes5294 » Mon Sep 29, 2014 1:28 pm

Look at this! A sneaky new feature of the BPE that I don't remember being documented in the Engine Driver articles: a Sound Curve Editor.

3966

It's good to have a visualisation of the curves instead of always having to visualize it in my head. It's also interesting to see that the curve does not appear to be an actual curve of best fit through the defined points, but a straight line from vertex to vertex. You can click anywhere on the graph to add a new vertex, you can click on an existing vertex and drag it around to adjust it's position, and you can click on a vertex and press the Del key to delete it. You can also input the X,Y coords below to be more precise.

Pretty nifty little extra, I'd say!

I discovered yesterday that you can preview particle emitters again which saves having to create a fake scenery item and add them as a child.

Although the curves feature is better, i'm so used to the old way, it's really held up my work for the last week as I get used to it! I think i'm back up to speed now..............

I've just tried this and really don't understand it - how on earth does one get it to the right scale? I tried reproducing an existing curve on a model I have and when I input the coords manually, it just sent them to seemingly random places - when I selected them again after inputting these coords from a traditionally done sound file, the coords were completely different..... :|

For some curves, you need to zoom out with the scroll wheel and drag and hold the RMB to navigate, otherwise some vertices will be off the screen. I prefer clicking on the vertices and typing in the coords instead of attempting to drag them around, but the visualisation is still useful to me. :)
