BigSims - Official Reseller?

Postby BigVern » Tue Jan 13, 2015 10:21 pm

The emergence of this outlet for TS2015 add-ons is causing some confusion...

Can anyone who still has an inside connection to DTG confirm whether they are official re-sellers in the same way as GMG, etc.?

The prices are certainly a little cheaper than going through Steam.

BigSims is yet another name for DTG/RSDL/RSC. I vaguely remember some "BigSims is born" blurb that looked pretty much like the "DTG is born" blurb. But who are we to decide on the pro and cons of creating legal entities? Some are created for taxing reasons, some for structuring the hierarchy of responsibility for content, money or success by some other measure, some for branding, some to take in partners for part of the venture.

Valve are pretty generous regarding alternative sales channels. The know that some developers will not go without such alternative channels and they trust that in the long run, all developers will see Steam as the best distribution channel.

As for undercutting, there is no undercut of regular prices like the Steam sales.

Thanks Andi, it was more for the purpose of confirming they are legit and not just take your money without sending a code. Obviously a bit odd for DTG to compete with themselves - the US prices looked a bit cheaper than the regular prices.

Nominal Steam prices are what they take from people who don't have the patience to compare prices. There must be many of those. In order to get the cash of the others, they organise their sales. And they don't consider individual webshops important at all, I believe. So they will just shrug their shoulders at such a situation.
